What is Double circulatory system. Explain with diagram? Write its significance?
A circulatory system in which blood passes twice through the heart to complete one circulation in the body is called a double circulatory system. One circulation is between the heart and body organs (except lungs) called systemic circulation and the other one is between heart and lungs only called the pulmonary circulation.
The double circulation is significant as it prevent mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood thus ensuring efficient oxygen supply to body cells and tissues.
